Cripple Creek

If you enjoy being in the heart of a historical city then you should visit Cripple Creek in Colorado. It is a former gold mining city that has incorporated its' rich history with entertainment attractions such as theatre, casinos, saloons, soapbox races and old west gunfights. Whether you are traveling from Leslieville, Toronto or Ottawa, there are many attractions in Cripple Creek for the whole family.

The city prides itself on its' mining history. Originally this high valley was simple a cattle pasture, however in 1890 it was the site of the last great Colorado gold rush. Cripple Creek went from being about as exciting as cloth diapers to attracting over five hundred new inhabitants. Roughly $500,000,000 of gold ore was extracted from the site.

Eventually the sources were depleted and Cripple Creek was known as a ghost town for many years. It wasn't until the city established legalized gambling in 1991 that the town was able to reach its' prestigious status once again. Similar to Whitby real estate, houses in Cripple Creek have reached some of the highest prices in years because it is now a thriving area. Although you may not be interested in moving to Cripple Creek it is definitely an area worthy of visiting.

If you enjoy the gambling atmosphere of Las Vegas, then you will not be disappointed in Cripple Creek. Although they do not have as much glitz and glam surrounding their casinos, the professionalism and quality of the dealers and equipment is very high.

In between visiting the slots, you should take time to visit local restaurants and businesses. One of the biggest attractions in the town is the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine. At this site you are able to visit a gold mine with an actual gold miner. This unique experience is something that you will never forget and you will get an inside view of what really goes on in a mine.

In the evening you can visit the Butte Opera House and take in a show. The theatre is currently operated by the Thin Air Theatre Company, which produces melodramas and musicals that can be enjoyed by the whole family. This company provides professional level theatrical experiences that are often season appropriate or have a link to the history of Cripple Creek. Whether you are group of Ajax dentists looking for a team-building trip or a family of five looking to get away, Cripple Creek has entertainment for all of your needs.

When planning your next vacation, consider visiting the mysterious town of Cripple Creek. With its' haunting history and vibrant casino and nightlife, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Instead of staying and doing pilates in Scarborough for your vacation, take trip down to Cripple Creek. Who knows, maybe you will strike gold.
